From the Director's Stall

by Martha Dubensky, Executive Director

Sometimes a newsletter is written and the name of the newsletter comes later. But in the case of the quarterly newsletter for GAIT Therapeutic Riding Center, the name actually came first.

When we began the newsletter in 1998, we had ONE issue for the whole year. We changed the format, the length and the number of issues per year over time to its present format of 4 times a year, 8 pages. Then in 2009 we began posting it on our website. This year, 2010, our office is going green, so we will not be sending out newsletters unless requested, as all the information will be on the website, www.gaitpa.org.

The newsletter name, “Stable-Eyes”, is a play on the word, ‘stabilize’. It seemed quite appropriate as that is the goal of every lesson taught here. When a person is riding on a horse which is moving, one needs to ‘stablize’ their trunk or core muscles to hold themselves in balance while perched atop a living moving being. It is also appropriate to note that we keep our ‘eyes’ on the ‘stable’ where the horses are housed to be sure their needs are met and that they are comfortable.

In this issue we will explore the ways we use our eyes to see that everything is stable, calm and balanced; we always seek stability for our horses and for our riders.

In This Winter Issue!

Welcome!
