Welcome To G.A.I.T.'s Spring Edition of "Stable Eyes"2009 is a year for additions. This year, we are adding “You” to the equation of horses + humans = equine knowledge. The first part of this equation, horses, adds a whole new vocabulary to our language. Words such as withers, dock and stifle or cantle, stirrup and halter are new words to many people. Even the scientific word for the family of horses which is equine” is a new word for many. Horses at G.A.I.T. add the movement which is crucial for participants with special needs. The horses provide our participants with even, rhythmic motion which they feel throughout their body as they move effortlessly through space. The second part of this equation, humans, adds the information needed to learn new things. “You” are a vital part of this equation as it relates to G.A.I.T. because of your knowledge about horses, special needs, and life in general. Your help volunteering with the programs, fundraisers, and the promotion of G.A.I.T. is vital. Adding “You” to this equation, gives deeper meaning and completes the enjoyable experiences for G.A.I.T. ’s participants. Whether “You” walk beside the rider or lead the horse during class, guide a participant through challenging physical and mental exercises during class, or are a financial supporter providing the opportunity for many children and adults to experience the joy and thrill of the horse’s movement that is improving their posture, balance and cognitive reasoning skills — the addition of “You”, as a caring individual, are helping those who need you. It also results in a larger equation: Horses + You = Using Equine Knowledge “To improve the quality of life of children and adults with special needs resulting in a more independent life in society.” |
