GAIT is a Therapeutic Horseback Riding Center for people with special needs. The word "GAIT" started out as an acronym for "Genuine Alternative In Therapy".

The word itself refers to the strides of the horse which are similar to the normal walking gaits of a human. The movement of the horse provides the physical component or stimulus to therapeutic riding.

What Is GAIT Therapeutic Riding Center?
GAIT Therapeutic Riding Center (GAIT TRC) was founded by Martha S. Dubensky in 1995 and established as a non-profit agency in June 1997. GAIT is a Federal Non-Profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

GAIT's Mission:
"To improve the quality of life of children and adults with special needs resulting in a more independent life in society."

This year, 2012, GAIT celebrates
17 years of providing equine programs and services for our tristate area!

All classes at GAIT TRC are conducted by PATH-Certified Instructors. PATH International is a global accrediting body that sets the safety standards and requirements for the therapeutic riding industry.

GAIT is a PATH International Premier Accredited Therapeutic Riding Center and that means GAIT TRC adheres to the strictest PATH rules and mandates that include the highest safety standards for the people we serve, a respectful and nurturing environment for all who enter GAIT's premises, and an elevated level of training for all staff and volunteers.
